Error code 8

Update: I did the heater calibration and the free air calibration again this morning. then hooked up the lc-1 straight into the serial port (not throught the usb to serial adapter). Same problem when I ran the engine. the readings were ok for about ten seconds... then then it jumps up to something like 22 or 44 and freezes with the 8 error. shut off power and restarted car same thing.

I have hooked up the LC-1 to my car and am only using the digital out through a usb adapter into my laptop. Do the Green and white ground still need to be grounded if the yellow and brown analog wires are taped off? I have them running into a ground going straight to the block along with the ground for the calibration switch and LED. The blue heater ground which also goes straight to the block on its own ground wire.

The first thirty minutes after calibration was fine, I was reading normal air/fuel ratios but the next day the readings began normally and quickly began to bounce and then freeze, in about 10- 20 seconds. I got error code 8. I can shut off the ignition and restart and the same thing happens. Today after letting the car sit for 9 hours I did the heater calibration and the free air calibration again. Same situation still exists. I have the O2 bung welded into the downpipe about three feet past down from the headers on a toyota MR2.

Thanks

Ok I checked my wiring, one ground wire to engine block for blue heater ground, one ground wire for white and green analog grounds to engine block, bolted with same bolt as heater ground, one wire for led and calibration switch to block with own bolt. Taped off analog wires, only using digital out. 12 volt power supply with 5 amp inline fuse OK>

I took the O2 sensor out of the bung. Unplugged the O2 sensor from the LC-1... did a heater calibration successfully, shut off car and plugged in O2 sensor to LC-1 did free air calibration until reading 20.9 with led on.

Reinstalled O2 sensor, turned on logworks. Started car o2 readings kinda low about 10 drove down the street less than a mile and the reading started to jump and soon after froze on 20 (error 8). Shut off car and restarted... o2 reading soon jumped off scale and froze. error 8 sensor timing

Any help for me?

I have the same problem

I redid the calibration sequence from the start a few times. The result is always the same:
- after the sensor heats up (mine goes up to 65), the XD-16 display reads the A/F correctly for about 15 to 25 secs and then the numbers freak out for a few seconds, freeze on either 14 or 20 and then error E8 flashes forever. This is happening at idle so please don't tell me it's too hot where i put the sensor. Furthermore, i contacted members of the SRT forums who have an Innovate wideband. A least one guy has the sensor installed exactly at the same location i put mine (just before the cat) and it works so it's not a heat problem. It's either a faulty sensor (boy are these sensors ******** or what?) or a problem with the Innovate LC1 or XD16.

I contacted Innovate late yesterday with my problem (which seems to happen a lot as per what i can see on this forum). The thing is i am sure the Innovate Techs will tell me i have a defective sensor which will force me to buy another one without knowing if something else is defective. More money on the way after spending close to $550 cdn for something that does not work

The model of the Bosch is LSU 4.2. What exactly is the corresponding Bosch part number? and are there any substitutes out there? (please give me some part numbers if you know them). If the Bosch sensors are ******** then i would like to use something else.

Good luck with your problem. I will try to keep in touch for the updates.

Thanks.

Hi,

This might be a defect in the LC-1, not the sensor. Contact Felipe at innovatemotorsports dot com for an RMA so he can send u a replacement LC-1.

Regards,
Klaus

Hard to say without us checking it out. Send an email to Felipe at innovatemotorsports dot com for an RMA.

faulty sensor

Before i sent back any kit to innovate , i thought it was worth taking my pals offer up- he has a brand new LC-1 ready to fit.
We swopped out the sensor- and hey presto everything back to norm - readings a ok , and no error code 8.
Pretty conclusive that my sensor went faulty .

Contacted Innovate - reply- "faulty sensors not covered by warranty"

Poor show chaps- just isnt cricket

I had that problem when my sensor was brand new and the engine hadn't even been run. I pulled the sensor out of the exhaust, (it started right when I screwed it in) and did like 20 free-air calibrations and now it works great. I just hope it doesn't do it again.

try and do a bunch of free air calibrations and see if that fixes it. That or try resetting it completely and then do a bunch of free air calibrations. Make sure your voltage supply is sufficient because I think that was my problem.

Manual's online:

http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/s...C-1_Manual.pdf

Try starting your car and let the battery have a good charge. Then give it another try. Also make sure your connections are good. Make sure you have a good ground, as well.

Like the manual says: "WHEN INSTALLED IN THE EXHAUST, THE OXYGEN SENSOR MUST BE CONNECTED AND OPERATING WITH THE LC-1 WHENEVER THE CAR IS RUNNING. AN UN-POWERED OXYGEN SENSOR WILL BE DAMAGED WHEN EXPOSED TO EXHAUST GAS."
